Build Your Own Solar Panel Kits – Are They Worth Considering?

May 11th, 2010

A quick look and search on Google would reveal myriads of websites selling these build your own solar panel kits, which are selling like lemonades one a hot summer day. And it’s NOT surprising why they are so popular.

Think about it – with the cost of non renewable energy sources on the rise making you jump out of your seats, solar energy is one of the best sources of alternative energy. For one thing, it is renewable. No, it cannot be exhausted. As long as there is sunlight, you can expect these solar panels to keep your appliances – your washing machine, TV, fridge, etc. working.

HOWEVER, I’m sure you are asking this question – are these build your own solar panel kits worth a look? Do they really work? Or are these kits and manuals made only with the intention of making money from unsuspecting fellas?

Let me cut the chase and answer that question straight up – YES, these kits and manuals do WORK! At least, that’s what I think of the Green DIY Energy solar panel manual and kit. Thanks to it, I have built sufficient solar panels to cut my monthly electric bill by half!

YES, it is possible to grab a kit from Green DIY Energy or other energy websites and assemble and install the solar panels yourselves. This may sound surprising for some, BUT building solar panels is very easy! And I’m a living proof. I’m not a scientist, not a physicist (matter of fact, I hate physics!), and I’m not an engineer, BUT I was able to get the job done thanks to the step by step instruction from one of the best build your own solar panel kits around.

And that’s just one of the advantages. Let’s take a look at other benefits of DIY solar panel kits and manuals that conventional energy sources can’t brag about.

For those of you who don’t know it, one of the BIGGER advantages of being able to generate power by yourself (with solar energy) is that you can sell the excess power to companies. This is called as the grid on and grid off application. I don’t know about you BUT that’s a very pleasant situation – you are not just saving money from your electric bill, you are NOT just helping Mother Nature, BUT you also have the opportunity to create income for yourself!

HOWEVER, there are other issues that you need to consider when you want to create your own solar panels with DIY Solar Kits and install them in your home. Let’s take a look:

- No matter how you look at it, it is a form of investment. And when we make investments, we want to make sure that we would recover them along the way. With that in mind, making sure that you would stay in that house after you install your solar panels is essential.

- Make sure that a large portion of your roof is open and exposed to direct sunlight. This is very important. Solar cells react best when they are in contact with direct sunlight. If your roof is covered with trees, you may want to consider trimming the stems and leaves off since it might prevent your solar panels from gathering enough power.

- Along with that, you may also want to make sure that working on your roof would be safe and comfortable enough for you to spend about 6 hours or so for the installation and wiring of your panels. You may want to enlist the help of someone if you are NOT confident about it. HOWEVER, the instructions from Green DIY Energy is very easy to understand that I was able to get the job done myself!

Why NOT have a look at the Green DIY Energy website and see how you can start building your solar panels TODAY?

4 Reasons Why You Should Build Your Own Solar Panel NOW!

May 10th, 2010

With the price of energy on the rise every time you switch the TV on and with the adverse effects brought by conventional energy sources, I won’t be surprised if you find yourself thinking…concerned of NOT just how we can significantly reduce our electric bill BUT how to save our Mother Earth in the process.

In light of that, more and more people are switching to alternative energy sources to power their homes and its appliances. Wind turbines, geothermal energy, bio energy – these are just some of the environmentally friendly energy sources that are being used right now. Among these, however, solar panels are on top of the list.

It’s not surprising why. After all, almost all of us get sunlight day in and day out – making solar energy a practical and logical choice. HOWEVER, buying pre assembled and ready to install solar panels could mean shelling out thousands…making it out of reach for average people like you and me.

BUT why buy pre assembled solar energy panels when you can save more by can build it yourself? YES! You have read that right. You don’t have to be a scientist or an engineer to create your own solar panels.

Thanks to Do It Yourself solar panel kits, you are only a step away from empowering your home’s appliances with natural and safe energy. Let’s take a look at the top reasons why more and more people are building their own solar panels:

Reason No. 1 – First and foremost, having your very own solar panels means significantly reducing your electric bill, which makes us cringe each time it arrives in the mail. If reducing your annual electric bill in half sounds good to you (which I’m sure it does), then building and installing sufficient numbers of solar panel is the way to go!

Reason No. 2 – Energy from energy companies is supplied by burning fossil fuels which takes hundreds of years to form. What does that mean? That means they are NOT renewable…once they run out, that’s it! You would have to wait for hundreds of years before you get energy again.

On the contrary, electricity or energy produced through solar panels is renewable. As long as there is sunlight (which I don’t think I would live to see run out), you can expect these solar panels to keep your appliances up and running.

Reason No. 3 – By building and installing these renewable solar energy panels, you are NOT just helping in preserving our non renewable energy sources and save money…you are also helping reduce the pollution that Mother Earth is suffering from.

With solar energy, you don’t burn anything – that means no harmful emissions, no volatile liquids that could harm those who mine them, no harmful residues…none whatsoever!

Reason No. 4 – When you create your own solar panels with the aid of Do It Yourself solar panel kits, you are in total control – you can customize the system to make sure it meets your needs. You can vary how the energy created by the solar panel is used – you can use them to heat your water, power up lights, or even to get your vehicle started!

Building your own solar panel is NOT as difficult as you may think. No, even a novice could build. Believe me, I have built and installed solar panels myself!

And now, I’m saving $150 to $200 every month on my electric bill. The Do It Yourself Solar Panel Kit from Green DIY Energy is definitely heaven sent. Without it, I wouldn’t be living a greener life and won’t be enjoying this fantastic renewable energy source.

Solar Energy Costs – Are You Willing To Pay The Price?

May 8th, 2010

Planning to build a solar energy system? I’m sure you do. After all, it’s one of the most reliable and safest alternative and renewable energy sources. HOWEVER, before you dive into anything, knowing the cost first is a MUST!

The same thing can be said with solar energy. Let’s take a closer look:

The Price Of Solar Energy
Since the oil industry uses price per barrel as the unit of price measurement, it makes perfect sense that solar energy industry uses price per Watt Peak as the primary unit of measurement.

According to the latest figures, the price of high power band solar modules (those that are more than 125 watts) dropped by a whopping $23 per Watt Peak. Back in 1982, it was at $27 per Watt Peak. Now, it’s at $4 each. The prices higher and lower than this figure usually depends on the size of the order.

The Solar Module
Serving as a rule of thumb, the energy system’s solar module represents about 40 to 50 percent of the total installed cost for the solar system. This is NOT set in stone however. It varies depending on the nature of the application. A complete solar system is comprised of all the other components that is required to make the system work – whether for it to feed energy to the grid or to be used as a stand alone energy source.

Back in 2003, a residential solar system (one which is designed for off the grid and stand alone applications) costs about $8000 to $12000 for every kilo Watt Peak installed.

Solar Energy Costs In Japan
As the leading country when it comes to Photo Voltaic cells prices, Japan is the largest country market that hosts the largest Photo Voltaic cell manufacturers and companies. A quick look at their history reveals that the cost of 4 kilo Watt peak residential solar systems in Japan have dropped significantly in the past ten years or so.

HOWEVER, that is NOT to say that investing in solar energy systems would be easy. The precise calculation of the solar panel and cell price relies very much on the location of solar installation, local electricity tariff rates, and those are just to name a few.

Things To Consider
Along with that, for you to determine the proportion of the total electricity that the solar energy system would provide, you MUST take in consideration the size of the system as well as the demand of your home appliances – computers, fridge, washing machine, and everything else.

Depending on the average kilo watt per hour usage of a home, the costs of solar energy systems could vary. For example, a solar energy system that could satisfy about 25 percent of a home’s energy system could cost around $16000 to $2000. True, that would be a one off payment or investment, BUT nobody can take away the fact that solar energy systems could be very expensive especially for average Joes and Janes.

A Solution
So how do we solve this problem and take advantage of solar energy systems? Simple! Build you own solar panels rather than buy the very expensive and ready to install ones which would bore a hole in your pocket!

All you need is a straightforward Do It Yourself Solar Panel guide that would teach you everything you need to know about constructing solar panels with spending a fortune.

One that I would highly recommend is Green DIY Energy solar panel guide. It has helped me create a sufficient and large enough solar panel that would take care of my home’s energy needs.

Testing Your DIY Solar Panels And Making Sure It Works!

May 6th, 2010

So you have built your own solar panels and solar energy system? Yeah? GOOD! Now’s the perfect time to start testing your DIY solar panels to make sure it works and it works safely. Let’s take a closer look at some of the tests that you should do before letting your DIY solar panels work full scale:

Testing With The Multi Meter
For those who have built their home made solar panels and solar energy system, I’m sure you know by now that having a multi meter that can measure volts and amps is handy for the project. Here’s how the testing should be done:

(1) Get the multi meter ready
(2) Next, you should set the dial to measure voltage
(3) After that, you should touch the testing rods both on the positive and negative run wires that are coming out from behind of the solar module.

When done correctly, the reading should be at around 18 volts. Done? EXCELLENT! Now let’s go ahead and measure it in amps. Reset the dial to check for the current, do the same steps outlined above, and the amperage reading from the solar cells should be somewhere around 2.5 to 3 amps.

Taking Advantage Of The Power From The Solar Panel
When you are pumping out electricity from a solar panel, the output would be in Direct Current (or DC for short). Here’s the thing, however, many of the electrical appliances and gadgets we have at home – washing machine, computer, television, fridge, and others, run on Alternate Current (or AC).

With that in mind, you need to connect the power output of the solar panel into a power converter that will change Direct Current to Alternate Current. Once done, you can finally use the power from the inverter coming out from a standard 120 volt plug.

Scaling Things Up – Running Everything On Solar Power!
Since you now know to make a home made solar panel without breaking your back or sucking your wallet dry, the next logical step to take is to scale up the project. What you need to do is repeat the whole process – start working on the second, third, or even fourth solar panel (depending on the number of appliances you have at home and their energy consumption).

For those of you who have gadgets, gizmos, and electrical appliances that need to run on higher voltage, you have to link or connect several solar panels in series to increase your solar energy systems power output.

If you want to re charge a battery quicker, here’s a tip that will help – the solar panels should be wired in parallel for you to increase the amps. With the amps doubled, you can reduce the battery charging and get things done half the time!

Building Your DIY Solar Panels NOW!

Green DIY Energy – Is It A Scam Or Is It For Real?

May 5th, 2010

It’s really nice to know that more and more people are switching to alternative energy sources like solar panels, wind turbines, geothermal energy, etc. – saving precious fossil fuels, helping Mother Nature, and saving money in the process.

One of the hottest solar energy guides around is Green DIY Energy. A quick look and search at Google will pull up thousands of great reviews from clients giving the guide 2 thumbs up…some even going the extra mile by elaborating their experience with the Green DIY Energy Kit. BUT as with anything on the internet, especially those that are very popular, one can’t help BUT doubt its authenticity.

Is it for real? Or is it nothing BUT a scam?

Just like you, I was very skeptical about the idea of harnessing free sunlight to create energy for my appliances to use. I was not skeptic of the idea since I was well aware that solar panels do exist and are being used in different parts of the globe. What I was skeptic about is that a downloadable ebook or manual could teach a total newbie…an average Joe like me everything I need to know to start building solar panels from scratch.

Facing my doubts, I decided to grab the Green DIY Energy Kit anyway (thanks to their money back guarantee). And guess what – I’m glad that I set my doubts aside! The whole process of building solar panels and piecing together all of the parts and bits is a very rewarding and fun experience for me.

And it’s NOT just about saving money in the process by cutting down my electric bill, what I am even more pleased about is the fact that I’m helping in keeping the environment clean and preserving our natural and non renewable energy sources. Not to mention I learned a lot of stuff (aside from building solar panels), which I wouldn’t have otherwise.

In my opinion, grabbing the Green DIY Energy kit and implementing the plans in it have 3 BIG benefits:

Green DIY Energy Kit Benefit 1
Massive savings on your monthly electric bill.

You may be asking – “Just how much can I save with solar panels?” From my calculations, I have saved as much as 80 to 90 percent within the first couple of months of use. I would bet that the figures are even higher for those people who are living in areas that receive a lot of sunlight.

And do you know what that means?

That means they can sell the excess power back to the grid company and make a profit out of it. YES, with Green DIY Energy on your back, you will NOT just save money, you will also make money in the process!

Green DIY Energy Kit Benefit 2
Way more affordable than buying pre assembled and ready to install solar panels.

As we all know, commercial solar panels would cost you thousands of dollars, and we are NOT even talking about wiring it up! It would take years before you recover your investment and start saving. True, it’s for the better in the long run, but not everybody is capable of investing thousands of dollars.

But don’t fret, with the Green DIY Energy kit, you can start building solar panels without boring a hole in your pocket. As for me, I recovered my investment in less than two months!

Green DIY Energy Kit Benefit 3
Power outages? Nah! With the solar panels built the Green DIY Energy way, power outages will be a thing of the past. When the city lights are out, you can be confident that your house will keep receiving power from the solar energy systems or from the batteries that you charged through the solar panels.

Solar Power Myths That You Should Know About

May 4th, 2010

A fact – The United States alone receives more energy, in the form of sunlight, within 40 minutes or so than all of the fossil fuels that are burned by power companies every single year. That’s what the Solar Energy Research And Education Foundation found out.

There are many myths surrounding solar power and energy systems…and it’s NOT surprising why. Power companies who are making lots of cash from burning fossil fuels and conventional sources of energy don’t want the truth about solar energy – how effective, safe, and economical they are, to come out.

Let’s take a look at some of them and dispel these myths!

Myth No. 1
Solar energy – the panels, cells, modules, and everything else work only in warm and sunny conditions.

The Truth – Solar technologies and designs are always on the advance, and now, they can work efficiently and economically anywhere you are in the country – even in those places that are cloudy.

Just in case you don’t know, solar energy electrifies those message signs, flashing arrow boards, and other billboards found in roadways in every state of the country. Along with that, there are solar water heating systems that are supplying hot water economically for swimming pools and spas in Aurora, Colorado. The Transportation Agency building found in Boston also enjoys this benefit.

Passive solar power design lights up a non profit health facility found in Frederick, Maryland. If you are not aware, this area receives 25 percent less sunshine than the national average – a strong proof that solar power and energy systems work even in not so sunny and cloudy areas.

And speaking of the advancements in solar energy, there are Photo Voltaic systems that can store electricity in batteries…ready to be used later. And to make it even more impressive, these batteries can store ready to use energy good for 30 consecutive days without sunlight.

Myth No. 2
Solar Power is too expensive for the average Joes and Janes like you and me.

The Truth – There are different situations where going for solar power is the least expensive means for supplying energy and power to an area. Along with that, there are different solar panel designs for everyone to take advantage of. Some costs a little less than a thousand dollars, some are in the $10000 range, and others are in between.

BUT here’s some nice news – you can start building your own solar panel with the Green DIY Energy solar panel guide. I have built my own solar panel with this online manual and I’m now enjoying massive savings off of my monthly electric bill!

I highly recommend checking out their website.

Myth No. 3
Solar energy and power is NOT as reliable as conventional energy sources like fossil fuels.

The Truth – Believe it or not, solar energy is more reliable than other energy and power sources. Matter of fact, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory found and declared that photo voltaics are the most reliable sources of electricity man has even invented and laid his hands to.

According to the Solar Energy Industries Association, there were surveys taken in the last decade or so and well over 94 percent of solar water heating owners say that their solar water is one of the best investments they have made.

One of the reasons why solar energy is far superior to fossil fuels when it comes to reliability is that it has a decentralized power source. No, it’s not subject to blackouts or breaks in the power company’s network. Since it is highly reliable, solar energy systems and technologies are being used for to keep warning signals, aircraft warning light, navigational buoys, and other lit up.

Myth No. 4
Solar power is NOT a practical choice for urban areas.

The Truth – Solar powered lights and electricity system eliminates the need for digging underground to create a trench for wiring. With that in mind, they are more cost effective compared to grid connections in urban settings.

7 MUST Have Tools For Building Solar Panels

May 3rd, 2010

Want to start building your very own solar panels and set yourself free from the ever increasing monthly electric bill? Want to empower your home appliances – washing machine, TV, fridge, computer, etc. will renewable and safe electricity?

I’m pretty sure that your answer is a resounding YES! With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at the 7 must have tools for building your very own solar energy system and panels:

MUST Have Tool No. 1 – Electric Table Saw
If you are a total newcomer in building solar panels, you MUST know that DIY solar panels are built from wood. With that in mind, having an electric table saw that cuts wood with great precision will come in very handy. Well, you can use a regular hand saw if you don’t have one ready as long as you can cut the wood in accordance to the specified dimensions.

HOWEVER, for someone who is NOT very experienced when it comes to building stuff, the machine accuracy that electric saws have will be very helpful.

MUST Have Tool No. 2 – Battery Powered Drill
This tool, on the other hand, is excellent for drilling and creating pilot holes for the screw. This is especially handy when you need to drill holes through the Plexiglas. You see, if you push regular screw through the plastic, the chances of creating cracks and crevices (which you want to avoid like plague!) will be high. Along with that, battery powered drills are perfect for driving in the screws.

Just make sure that you have all of the necessary bits and parts of the drill as well as some extra battery in case you need it.

MUST Have Tool No. 3 – Electric Sander
When building your own solar panels, you need to sand down the wood’s surface. And this is the tool to use! On the other hand, if you don’t have a powered sander, using good and old sand paper should get the job done. BUT since you will be doing things manually, it will take significantly longer than usual.

MUST Have Tool No. 4 – Gloves And Caulk Gun
You see, when creating home made solar panel and solar energy systems, you need a lot of liquid silicone caulk handy. The caulk gun us necessary for squeezing the caulk out of the caulk tube. The gloves, on the other hand, is for your safety – helping you keep the caulk off of your fingers.

MUST Have Tool No. 5 – Multi Meter
This tool is essential when you are working on your systems solar cells. Make sure that the multi meter you have can measure both volts as well as amps. Should you use analog muti meter or the digital one? Well, it doesn’t matter. Either of the two should work fine as long as it can measure amps and volts.

MUST Have Tool No. 6 – Soldering Gun
There will be a point in the construction when you need to connect and piece all of the solar cells together. For that, a soldering gun is necessary. Mind you, though, the soldering gun of your choice should be a low wattage one.

You see, PV or Photo Voltaic cells are very delicate and fragile. You definitely don’t want to burn off the tabs.

MUST Have Tool No. 7 – Stainless Steel Screws
Last BUT not the least, you want to have a bunch of stainless steel screws ready. Why stainless? Why not the regular ones? You see, your solar panels would be situated on your home’s roof. It would be exposed to rain, snow, sun, and other elements.

You sure don’t want it to rust.

Here’s a tip to make sure your screws are stainless – use a magnet. If it’s NOT attracted to the magnet, you know that they are stainless.

Finding those tools isn’t hard, right?

All you have to do now is find an excellent DIY solar panel guide that will walk you through the process of creating your own solar energy system. One guide that I would highly recommend is from Green DIY Energy.

Thanks to the Green DIY Energy manual, I have built my own solar energy system and enjoying its benefits for 2 months now and still counting!
